Divergent histograms place each group on opposite sides of a central axis, making comparisons intuitive. Instead of stacking values into one bar, they show each distribution separately, so you can clearly see where one group leads the other.
Stacked bar charts, in contrast, focus on totals. This often hides the natural shape of each distribution and makes detailed comparison harder.
Our Use Case: Comparing Purchase Patterns Between Member and Non-Member Customers
This chart visualizes how purchase values differ across price ranges for two customer segments:
• Bars diverge from the center, highlighting which group leads in each range
• Both distributions retain their natural shape — no distortion from stacking
• Easier to identify peaks, patterns, and differences across segments
• Makes comparison intuitive without losing detail from either group
By showing both groups clearly and separately, divergent histograms make distribution-level insights easy to interpret and act on.
